ABOUT MOBILE DTV
Cio is an ATSC-M/H- compatible device, which means that it meets all standards for mobile handheld devices receiving a mobile digital signal. So you may be wondering, what is mobile digital TV? Luckily, we’ve got your answer.
- Mobile DTV is…
- Full-motion TV broadcast to mobile and handheld devices at up to 40 miles away from the broadcast transmitter.
- “Free to Air” ad-supported broadcast. So, you can receive a mobile DTV signal on a compatible device at absolutely zero cost – unlike subscription services that can cost as much as $200 per year.
- Growing. There is the potential for 800 stations nationwide to broadcast
a mobile signal for live TV. More than 20 TV stations in 12 major U.S. cities
are currently broadcasting a mobile digital signal, with an additional 55 stations
slated to begin broadcasting in the near future — and this is only the beginning.

Can I view mobile DTV programs on my home TV?
No. Unfortunately, you cannot receive mobile DTV signals on your home TV – they are viewable only on devices like Cio that are equipped with an ATSC-M/H microchip.
ABOUT ATSC/M-H
ATSC-M/H (Advanced Television Systems Committee - Mobile/Handheld) is a U.S. standard for mobile digital TV that enables local broadcasters to send live TV signals to mobile handheld (M/H) devices at no cost to the consumer. This means no subscription and no monthly bill.
Mobile DTV signals are sent from a station’s existing broadcast TV tower to a handheld device, requiring a transmission exciter and a microchip installed in the receiving device.
